GLOBE CRUISERS [06.05.2009] Category: Skateboard

GLOBE CRUISERS Key Features & Benefits:
      Good quality decks and set-ups
Large range to choose from for all needs
      Tail kick on longer boards

Suited to:
      Rolling round bowly skate parks
Cruising the streets in a surf/skate style

Bottom line:
With roots in skateboarding, these guys know their stuff and the boards reflect this. While they don't have any design innovations, they are well priced and an awesome all round board that will get you to the shops in style, and offer a fun day skating when Huey is on holiday's.

mesurf Review:
"Taking it to the streets"
So we met up with one of the crew from GLOBE to have a run on their latest cruisers. (Thanks Ryno for setting it up bro!) First impressions were 'Globe know skateboards!'. Globe's roots are in skate, so its no surprise these boards were of good quality and felt at home on the pavement.

CARVING/SURFING
3.25/5
The harder decks didn't give as much flex as I've had on other cruisers so they felt a little stiff at times. The harder the boarder the harder it is to pull tighter lines without losing grip. Globe however do have a range of BAMBOO boards, and these have much better flex characteristics. I'd be keen to have a run on those and feel the difference throughout.

CRUISING
4.25/5
The Globe boards love cruise mode, offering a very smooth ride. The boards with the little kick are great for those that live in busy areas where you are kept to the footpaths. With the large gabs, bumps and getting from the street to the footpath the kick lets you lift the front truck easily and quickly, saving you face planting.

SPEED
3.5/5
Speed wasn't an issue for where we were riding. The boards aren't designed for down hill racing, but will get you around 40km/h before the death wobbles kick in. The boards held line really well and I was able to stay in control at some pretty high speeds. The harder deck makes cornering at 'high speeds' a little sketchy. You'd have to be pushing some very high speeds for this to be a concern.

DESIGN
4.0/5
The Globe cruiser range are well designed and have a good mixture of all the elements needed for a top cruiser. Taking on aspects of performance skaties and tying in with the new longboard style make the varied designs great. The graphics are sweet and will have you lookin' like you own the place when mixin' it with locals.

SLIDING
3.5/5
The boards performed well in sliding with a tight, quality feel. The tail kicks can cause issues when sliding at high speeds so if you are into speed and slides, you may want a flat board. However if you're not a speed 'longboarder' you won't have a problem. There are benefits to the kick however, they offer an easy way to pull the board back around from switch. It's personal preference and you can decide based on your skate style.

QUALITY
4.0/5
High quality materials used on decks, trucks, wheels and bearings on all the cruisers. Globe have been producing skaties for years and so have refined their quality control to a fine art and know what is required. Quality is an important factor when buying a board, as you want it to last and keep you frothin' for years to come. You shouldn't have any problems with a Globe.

OVERALL
4.00/5
Overall the GLOBE cruisers are awesome boards. They're high quality on all parts (decks, trucks, wheels and bearings) and have a large range to suit all styles.  Whether you're after a board for cruising your local grounds or getting into some park action when the surf is flat, Globe has a board for you.
